I might have put John McClane, but Die Hard 4 sucked. Rambo, on the other hand, returned and blew all other current action heroes away with Rambo 4. Thus, further cementing his status as ultimate action hero.

I would have put Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.
Bruce Lee because his characters were so dynamic and fast.
Jackie Chan because he was the action hero who didn't look for trouble but trouble followed him.

Paul Kersey's an interesting choice. I'm not a fan of the sequels, but I love the first Death Wish. I'd hardly call him an action hero in that. The appeal is that he's an every man who's been pushed too far. Then again, Rambo wasn't really presented as an action hero in either form of First Blood. In the movie he was just trying not to get killed by the cops. In the book well... there were no heroes.
No love for Indiana Jones or Mad Max?
My top three would probably be Rambo, McClaine, and Indiana Jones. Ask me again under different circumstances adn I might throw a different three at you. I might throw in Robocop, but he was a flaming commie in Robocop 3 and communists can't be action heroes. I didn't make the rules. The 80's did.

Then Paul Kersey, nobody suspects the old guy ;D. You know that reminds me, my mother dislikes action movies especially violent ones and yet she enjoys the Death Wish movies. Maybe it's the awesomeness of Charles Bronson (poor guy wasn't really appreciated for his talent when he was alive  ) |
