Hello all. Newbie here. I just sold this due to times being what they are but I will re-build another one.
Anyway I thought I would show it off here:
Hope you like it.
I was trying to figure out how to display my Rambo stuff and then I found an Ebay listing that inspired me. His is more promotional with Rambo written on stuff and pictures. Mine was built with the idea that this would be one of the cases of weapons he was handed to use on the mission.
THE WORDS RAMBO DO NOT APPEAR ON ANY OF THESE ITEMS.
As Rambo would not carry anything with his name on it and I wanted to make it as screen accurate as possible I got rid of any Rambo words that were on anything. Namely the “Signature” boot knife that was way wrong anyway and the big knife that had Rambo First Blood Part II stamped on it.
The idea was to have a case that could hold everything but also create an instant display. Everything has been modified as needed to make it as screen accurate as possible.
This is the case in "Display Mode." My wife is hidden behind it holding it up. I designed the top half so it could be displayed without the stuff falling out and not needing straps to hold them in as long as it’s not past 90 degrees obviously To have it displayed like this it needs to be up against a wall and secured. I tried putting on side straps to make it display free standing but it’s so heavy the lid started pulling the corners of the bottom piece up towards it, so the bottom half took on this weird half round shape.
The idea was to have everything he carries in the film, minus the gear he loses on the jump, and to have it all functional. Obviously not including the explosive arrows.
The bow and take down arrows are all fully functional. The Bow is RIGHT HANDED unlike his which is left as Stallone is left handed. It has brand new cables and strings on it. I included all the tools you will need and everything he has in the film
The bottom section has the main bow body and two fiberglass limbs ( Unlike the marketed Rambo Bow that had wood limbs even though in the film they are fiberglass). This is a Hoyt Spectra just like the one he uses in the film except it does not have the famous and extremely rare Omega wheels. You can display it without the Cable Guard but you need to have it on when shooting. The only other difference is these later models have a slight curve in the arrow rest area to accommodate modern arrow rests. This has the advantage of being able to have the same simple Hoyt arrow rest he has in the film but also use more modern rest, two of which are included.
Camp Incursion Version (Minus Cable Guard. Forgot to take it off for the pics)
Revenge Version
With Cable Guard Off:
Shooting Version with Stabilizer
Rambo 3 Version
Hoyt Spectra in Rambo 3 version Vs. Hoyt Pro Vantage Rambo 3 version.
Hoyt Pro Vantage (Left Handed as was his) is what they used in 3. You can see it’s a little bigger. This Rambo 3 Pro Vantage will be sold as well down the line when I have time to fix a few things on it.
The T Handle allen wrenches are included and are just like the ones he uses in the film. The square limb mounts are if you are going to use the Rambo 3 style quiver, otherwise use the included round washer things to make it SA to #2. The same bolts are used, just with either the washers or the square things. These also adjust for your pull weight.
The take down arrows are also functional. They can be fired and were built using the idea of a hunter I saw online who wanted to make takedown arrows for his pack. These are slightly different than the ones in the film as far as how they go together because they way they made them in the film they would likely fly apart or come apart as they were drawn from the quiver, however just like in the film the arrows have a silver band in the center. It is part of the attaching system.
They are not as accurate as regular arrows and will never fire as well but they shoot fine and are great fun. I had the vanes put on by the local bow shop after I built and painted the arrows. The vanes are black and had to be special ordered. Painting vanes did not work.
The Bow shop people think I am crazy.
The explosives are made with the exact same broadheads used in the film. They are Razorback 4s. These are what were used in the film. Razorback 5’s usually come with the covers that have three rings and the 4’s like the ones in the film have five rings. I also filled in the back with puddy but did not make it entirely smooth to match the film prop. We know sometimes they give props thought and sometimes they don’t. Looking at these regardless of whether or not it’s supposed to be plastic explosives packed in there or they just did not bother to smooth it out, I found if it is all smooth and clean it just did not look right.
The case is painted just like the film one. Flat black on the inside and satin on the outside.
The Broadheads are made to look just like the ones in the film. The real ones are Black Copperhead Ripper Broadheads but those are rare and pricey so I got the same companies Slicer Broadheads and put the notches in then painted them to match the films.
The kit includes a portable bow press to put the bow together and take it apart.
It has both a three pin sight just like he used in the film and a second sight base with a pistol scope mounted on it. He uses the scope when he goes into the camp and the three pins later after Ko is killed. The scope is thought to have possibly been a laser sight or a night scope but in reality was likely a pistol scope.
I also included a quiver and quiver mounts that are similar to the Rambo 3 quiver. Even though it’s a slightly different bow if you want to put it into a Rambo 3 configuration you can. Like his, it has a 9 arrow holder on it but only 5 can be put on with the explosive tips or broadheads. There is not enough room to have more on with the large tips so that is why you never see more than 5 on his in Rambo 3. I also included a Hoyt overdraw also similar to the one in Rambo III but designed for this bow. He has the overdraw and quiver but no sight on the #3 bow.
People think they put the quiver on upside down and the arrows in backwards by accident because the Archery expert they hired in #2 was not brought over for #3. This is likely not the reason. I think they put the quiver on backwards and arrows upside down simply because they look cooler with the arrowheads sticking up out the top.
Anyway you can configure the bow for regular firing with the stabilizer and Cable Guard or make it Camp Incursion version with scope ( with or without cable guard depending on whether it’s for shooting or display) or revenge version with pins or Rambo III. Or a combination of all.
The knives.
The Knife.
I am NOT a Lile knife, I just play one on TV. This is actually the Master Cutlery Knife with a super screen accurate paintjob, Lanyard, and sheath. I tried just putting on a more accurate paintjob over the existing one but it did not work so I did the finish just like they did on the real knives. I taped off the edge, bead blasted it with a sand blaster and then painted it. A little wider painted area that is also a little wider at the front than the back makes it look very close to a Lile. Added the painted butt cap, removed Rambo Stamp and a very SA lanyard. Like his it has three knots, #1 about an inch from the end, #2 about an inch from that, and then #3 a little higher up. And like in the film the lanyard is longer than the knife.
The sheath is the most SA I have seen. Harry made it for me but I noticed one small flaw. In the film the actual Lile sheath has a longer pull tab past the snap on the retention strap and a squared off end. All the SA sheathes I have seen have a smaller pull tab and a rounded end including the Lile offerings. There are only two scenes where you can see it and it’s about 1 ½ inch long and square at the end. I also painted the Sharpener which is the same brand and model from the film. It’s either blued or painted and scratched in the movie. Very hard to tell in the film. Also the snap of the sheath is painted on mine as in the film and most have it shiny. For some reason Lile knives as well as other still have the unpainted butt cap, un-blued or painted sharpener and in correct pull tab.
Real Lile for camparison: (This is a Lile made by him, stamped Rambo The Mission. The screen used knife had no stamp)

SA vs. Stock:
Comparison pic with my still unpainted but bead blasted United Cutlery #2.
The boot knife. Oddly he uses the same boot knife in 3 that he does in 2. He must have a good supply because he only uses it once in 2 and does not recover it. He has another just like it in 3 and does not recover it after the first time he uses it. At first it looks like he does but he does not. Later when he is going to burn himself he has the boot knife again. The first time he uses it in 3 he pulls it from his left boot. The second time he uses it in 3 he pulls it from his right boot. So I guess he could have been carrying two or hey it’s a movie. They once offered a “Rambo 3 Boot Knife” but it was all black and in both scenes in #3 as well as #2 it’s the Lile style paintjob. It never appears all black. Obviously the newer all black signature edition is wrong as well but the style and shape of the knife is correct.
I had to bead blast and repaint this as well and add a thin piece of leather to the sheath to cover up the signature non sense. Now it is very SA.
The T Handles or Push Daggers. No pic that I have found exists of these things. You can see the blades and the handles when he puts them in the sheath but not the transition part. Later when he is loading the camera you can see a brief shot of the T handle knife. I modified a pair of United Cutlery Push Daggers. I changed the handles to match the screen used ones. They were a simple shape that had, what appears to be a dull texture grip on them. I painted them to match as well. Unlike my Big Knife and Boot Knife that are pretty much dead on, short of Lile knives, the Push Daggers are close and look very cool but not exact. I made the sheath based on the scene where he loads them up and later uses them and it’s pretty SA. It has Velcro on the back to attach to the belt, as in the film it had no belt loop on it so it had to be sewn on or use velcro as well. It also has a divider piece of web strapping in the sheath so the knives don’t rub each other.
I also included a new sharpening stone that has a coarse and fine side just like the one he uses in the film.
The back pack. Oh what a Nightmare this was!!!!!!!! It’s made out of Vinyl . The screen used one is made from leather. The screen used one was a found item. I think it was a vintage golf bag and they added the cover and outside pouch to it. In studying the film I got a freeze-frame where you can see the outside ouch and cover seem to be different leather. I made the pouch exactly like the film. It’s flat and has a zipper up the center. The pull tab is also very SA. I found a freeze-frame that showed me the exact outline of it. In reality you would not have a big thing like that flapping around as it might get caught on something but it’s in the film. The cover is also very SA. Unlike the custom made one in #3, this one has space over the top area and in some scenes you can see it flopping around when nothing is in it holding the cover up. The one in #3 has a tight cover on it and two more regular looking pouches. Just like in #2 there is no arrow cut out in the cover like in #4. In #2 they just stick the arrows out the side and the cover is just pushed over. It has a real padded Military M-60 sling just like he has in #2. Also the snap is left shiny as it is in the film. I am very proud of the back pack as it turned out much better than it was looking to for a while. In some pics it looks much more shiny than it actually is.
The weapons case was the nightmare from hell. This pick-n-Pluck foam is horrible and I will likely never use it again. It came out okay but not a nice as I would like and next time I think I’ll stick to regular plain foam.
In the little pouch you have your new cables and strings. I had the bow shop put them on about two weeks ago. You also have your cams, bow press instructions, pieces, pins, etc. Extra vanes, an extra vintage arrow rest, a few field points, the bar that goes on the pin sight (Not used in the film) and some spare foam pieces.
Just for fun, since you can see a map in the prep scene, I found a section of a 1971 map of Vietnam that shows all kinds of military stuff. Since he escaped in 1971 from this camp he would want to compare the old maps to “present” 1985 ones.
