I was 17 and honestly very disappointed. It's was "slightly", as in insanely over done but more importantly I felt like it was just copying #2 which in my opinion is the perfect action film.
It's not that there is anything wrong in particular but it was just more of the same. Although the fight was great as #2 and #3 have two of the more realistic fight scenes I have seen minus the #3 bear hug.
I loved Rambo 4 as well. No updating and more like an effort not to update but go old school. Although I would not mind an updated version.
The problem with 4 is it should have happened shortly after 3 and there needed to be an explanation of what happened. He seemed to accept himself and find some peace at the end of 3 and then for some unknown reason in 4, many, many years later he is still "mad in the jungle" At some point you need to get over things and move on. Plus he has never bothered to talk to his Dad. That's messed up.
I would have liked 4 to take place a couple years after 3 and have a reason he is back there and then continue with 5 and him back in the U.S.
Plus, and again I liked 4, but for the third time in a row it's the exact same plot. Rambo goes into a prison camp to rescue prisoners. In 1 he was a prisoner (twice technically) who escaped and 2-4 he rescued prisoners.
I am sure he can do more.

BTW a Tank would rip through a helicopter like paper and I think the tank might feel a little bump. Like you sneezed.

I was 16 when i saw it in theater. I was really into it. I was hoping they'd start a new series of novels not just by Morrell himself but by any modern action writer Honestly the RAMBO III novelization didn't stick with me the way the FBPII did) I also wanted a Rambo/Commando Team-up film to happen.

I wish I had. I was ten years old when it came out and wanted to see it so bad. It is still my favorite action movie today.

Although First Blood is my fave Rambo movie, back in the day, I must admit being a kid, RFBP2 was the hot favorite for me, however, as I have matured and can look deeper, FB is by far the best. I remember back in 88 thinking that rambo 3, although a great movie, was the weakest of the 3..then part 4 came out, and 3 had gone up a notch, after a few years now though, I think 4 is a good movie too.

I rented a VHS in 1988 or so. I was just 11.
The movie was just magnificent, and looks and sounds magnificent even today.
It's epic and philosophical. It's larger than life and intense. It's like an "OPERA", if you know what I mean.
